Little Outhouse on the Prairie

We went camping at Lake Shetek this weekend. Had a great time, got to see Margot and fam but man how many people can you cram in a campground . It was real-diculous as we like to say. We camped at the point of a pennisula, you drive up with the lake on your left and camp sites not only at the end, and on the right, but to the left along the shoulder of the drive in there. Just cram them anywhere.

When we first got there we were the only ones back there and it was really nice. Very pretty lake with pelicans going by, lots and lots of trees. Very nice. Then 4 more family's came in on top of us. There was room for one . The outhouse was so horrible. Outhouses in general don't bother me but, there was only one, and it was bad! But we had a good time, weathered a good storm Saturday night . Our beater $200 pop camper didn't leak , well guess one spot did a little but not over the beds.

It was a very relaxing weekend. I finally got to sample one of Margots' cakes. Kick ass, now that's cake, no wonder she's getting orders.

Well guess not everyone was happy every second:
Since we woke up Sunday morning to everything soaking wet , the Little House museum was too much to deal. We're all so filty and we just wanted to get home and shower. Emily didn't really care. She had a great time , we haven't finished reading the books anyway. Maybe next year we'll do that and make sure we do it the first day. We did see Plum Creek, as in On the Banks of Plum Creek.
It was a fun trip and the girls were plenty tired on the way home:

ZAP!

Storms came through Friday and lightening struck one of our elms, split it right in half. We have a huge yard but this tree is right beside the house, too close for comfort. I'm sure it was the first big crack we heard before the storm was really on us. Just goes to show standing out there watching isn't a great idea. Check out the hole in the ground.

Bitter Sweet

I sold my horse trailer finally, oh I need to delete that ad....anyway, bitter sweet. Very sweet having a wad of cash put in my hand but it makes it kind official. The horse thing isn't going to happen. At least not now. In 5 or 10 years it could maybe. By then I'm may feel too old and sore to care. If by the off chance i do some how pull it off eventually I'll look for a used trailer then. No sense in letting this one sit and detiorate while I'm busy doing other things. I really need to learn to manage the life I have better anyway before adding something as time comsuming as a horse to it. I'm a great planner, champ at it, following through, not so good. Like my long history of brief shit jobs when I was younger. I woke up thinking of my brother Chris, which led to thinking about shit jobs. He and i had a running contest for awhile, who could quit a job the fastest. A tie really. We both never started jobs we accepted and have both pulled up to a new job the first day and thought no, not going to happen and drove off. When I was 19 I worked at McDonalds. 2 weeks into it I asked the manager to take over my cash register for a minute and never came back. Chris once had to list 3 goals on a job application. he wrote.

1. to obtain magical powers
2. to develop a universal field theory
3. to never have anything like a real job again

What a mind and dead at 48. But what does this have to do with me selling my horse trailer?

Yard People

Lots of work going on around here or rather there soon will be. Pole barn work and concrete work will commence in about 10 days. Roofers should start soon after. We need to strip the kitchen cabinets out and expose the exterior wall. Dave says we get this done and then we'll need to to do the driveway and some landscaping....he fears we may even become yard people....oh no!!! Actually, after visiting with my friend Sarah yesterday I'm inspired by her dad's gardens. We have the space to do this.
